Testimonies

My Testimony

I graduated from college in 2000, and immediately found my dream job: being an English teacher at a distinguished private school. At this time pursuing classic literature and teaching it was more interesting to me than enjoying Christ and the Church.

At the beginning of my second year of teaching, I found myself reading a story at a local bookstore. The plot was so dark and so evil that in 30 seconds the vanity of the world I thought I loved was exposed to me. Everything that I was giving my life to was exposed to God’s judging and consuming fire. I had to make a life-changing decision. I could not continue to feed my students these terrible things found in contemporary literature. I was planning my resignation.

Fully prepared to write my resignation, I fellowshipped with an older brother. He led me to see that God honors contracts so I needed to fulfill my obligation to the school I was at. My heart was heavy doing the very thing that was my dream life the day before. However, my desperation for the Lord filled me with supply. Soon afterwards the school year ended and the Lord confirmed in me that it was not my quitting that He was after, but my giving Him the first place in all things.

I continued to teach 2 more years before I began serving Him full-time. Whether teaching or serving, what matters is Christ. I am so thankful He brought me from the vanity of vanities to a life of enjoying all the spiritual blessings in the heavenlies.
